Departures terminal at Girona-Costa Brava Airport
Girona Airport winter 2025 has closed with positive results. Between November 2025 and March 2026, the airport recorded 232,250 passengers and 7,408 total operations — a 3.02% and 11.18% increase respectively compared to the previous year.
Girona Airport winter 2025: a season of growth
Overall, the winter season 2025-2026 confirmed a clear upward trend in activity at Girona-Costa Brava Airport. While passenger numbers grew steadily, the rise in total operations was particularly strong, reaching 11.18% year-on-year growth.
March was the standout month of the season. Passenger traffic reached 64,259 — up 11.76% compared to March 2025 — while operations soared by 32.73%, making it the best-performing month of the entire winter period.
December and February also delivered solid results. December closed with 51,225 passengers, a 4.57% increase, and February recorded 41,011 passengers, up 5.57%. In terms of operations, February grew by 14.37% and November by 14.14%.
Two months below the previous year
Not all months performed equally well. November recorded a slight drop of 2.84% in passengers, with 40,293 travellers compared to 41,471 the year before. January was the weakest month, with 35,462 passengers — an 8.21% decline — and a 3.87% fall in operations.
Nevertheless, these dips were more than offset by the strong performance in the remaining months, resulting in a positive overall balance for the season.
A solid foundation for summer 2026
These results reinforce Girona-Costa Brava Airport’s growth trajectory and its commitment to expanding connectivity year-round. Moreover, they provide a strong foundation heading into summer 2026, when the airport will offer connections to 50 cities across 15 European countries.
The Airport’s Strategic Board — made up of the Diputació de Girona, the Generalitat de Catalunya, and the Girona Chamber of Commerce — continues to work under the GROwing brand to attract new airlines and routes, building on the momentum of consecutive seasons of growth.
What drives winter tourism to Girona-Costa Brava

The growth in winter traffic reflects the strength and diversity of the region’s year-round offer. Several key products attract visitors during the colder months.
The Girona Pyrenees ski season runs from December until Easter week, with 5 ski stations, 131 open days, and peaks soaring above 3,000 metres. Beyond skiing, the area offers high mountain routes, cycle tours, and homegrown mountain cuisine across 4 Natural Parks — making it a compelling destination throughout spring, summer, and autumn too.
Cycling tourism is another major winter driver. Over 50% of cyclists travelling to the region book package tours, spending an average of 4.49€ per person. Visitors come primarily from France, the UK, the USA, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and typically travel with family or friends for around 4.67 nights.
The region’s cultural offer is equally strong all year round. With over 550 heritage elements, unique museums, traditional festivals of national interest, music festivals, local handicrafts, and theatre, Girona-Costa Brava attracts culturally motivated travellers in every season.
Finally, golf plays a growing role in the winter product mix. Costa Brava offers 9 golf courses for all levels, with spectacular design and international competitions — including the prestigious Ryder Cup 2031, which will further boost the region’s global profile.
